Bonnie Jean Mah, Writer / Editor

Long-time Iris clients will remember Bonnie, who began her writing career at Iris Communications in the 1990s. Now, she’s returned as a consultant on the Iris team, focusing on research, writing and fundraising projects.

With 13 years’ experience in communications and development, Bonnie specializes in writing engaging and accessible fundraising materials, and in translating scientific information into plain-language, compelling documents.

Her background includes communications positions at the UBC Development Office and SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts, and several years as an independent consultant with clients in the non-profit and public sectors.

Bonnie balances communications work with filmmaking projects—she’s worked on several television projects and produced short films screened at major festivals across North America. She is an active member of the independent filmmaking community, and served on the board of Women in Film & Video Vancouver. Outside of work, Bonnie loves to explore the outdoors with her seven-year-old daughter.
